Helvetia 2050

What will Switzerland’s land look like in 30 years? Climate change and the degradation of ecosystems are among the most important societal problems, and it is sometimes difficult to imagine the impact of today’s decisions on tomorrow’s world. The show “Helvetia 2050” - an interactive, improvised play - bridges the gap between the present and the future.

Project Requirements

Lygia Pavitt, Leo Moreno and Damian Veiga contacted Valerio to compose the introduction to their new show Helvetia 2050. Their requests were clear. The introduction had to be only sound and had to set the mood of the play. For this, they asked Valerio to record different radio voices and to compose a music around it. The theme is about climate change, the destruction of ecosystems and is therefore serious.

Project Details

Valerio started by writing the music in order to give the actors an atmosphere to record the voices afterwards. He immediately started with a dark atmosphere mixing electronic music and orchestral music. He integrated from the first notes of the bram (big musical explosions mixing percussions, horns and synthesizers), much used by Hans Zimmer in his big productions. The purpose of this is to directly capture the attention of the listener and make him understand the gravity of the situation. The rest of the music follows a linear evolution in parallel with the texts. The more serious the texts become, the more intense the music becomes. Valerio recorded several actors in order to create a diversity of different radio programs to show the globality of the theme and to be able to create a cluster of voices at the end. All the voices were recorded in his studio and mixed to give an “old radio” feel.
